Local Focus
A.T. Kearney's Transportation Industry Practice covers Aviation, Tourism, Shipping, Rail, Express, Postal and Road. Our clients include carriers, infrastructure providers, regulators, integrators and third-party services suppliers. They also include business organizations interested in this industry, such as equipment manufacturers and private equity firms.
We were the first major consulting firm to establish a dedicated transportation practice in the US in the 1920s. Our primary focus is on corporate strategy, but we are also deeply involved in operational, network, marketing, organizational and information technology issues. Our firm's experience in assisting industrial companies and retailers in supply chain management and logistics allows us to bring our clients a unique perspective on shipper logistics and carrier strategy, as well as clarity about how these issues relate to service and network design, carrier selection and pricing decisions.
We strive to provide innovative insights and tangible value – we work with our clients at all levels to achieve sustainable change. Thanks to our European and global orientation, our senior consultants have a great deal of industry experience in the Benelux, in Europe and beyond. Recent examples of our Transportation work in the Benelux include:
- Strategy and organization (strategic planning, portfolio rationalization, competitive analysis, post-merger integration and merger and acquisition support): An analysis of the economic viability of a major Benelux-based carrier, with a focus on network density issues, leading to M&A consolidation in the industry.
- Marketing and sales (marketing strategy, international customer requirements, key account strategy, sales force effectiveness): An initial business plan for the Dutch-based European freight forwarder subsidiary of a leading international transport group, including country and industry segment prioritization and product design.
- Restructuring (cost reduction, customer/segment profitability, transformation): Cost reduction in the express industry, covering network restructuring, aircraft maintenance, purchased road and air transport, ground handling strategy, and overall procurement.
- Operations (terminal productivity, network design, business process improvement, global sourcing/supply management, outsourcing): Punctuality improvement and infrastructure optimization in multi-client set-ups, including an airport, a leading airline and Air Traffic Control.
